Monday Holiday Workshops

Knitting Mechanics –10:00 – Noon  Fix dropped stitches, unknit, pick up rows below.  Bring a 4 x 4 swatch in worsted weight still on needles  (don’t bind off).  Class fee $15

Easy Steek Mystique   1:00-3:00  Ever wanted a cardigan from the pullover you have?  If so, this class is for you.  We will prepare sweaters for making into cardigans by learning the ways to stabilize the  knitted fabric and the types of edging that can be done to finish a new cardigan.  Bring a sweater you are interested in making into a cardigan, or purchase an old sweater from a thrift store to experiment with this technique.  Bringmedium scissors (7″ or larger).  Class fee $15

No Sew Zippers in Knitwear with Maryanne  3:30 – 5:30Have you steered clear of cardigans that call for a zipper?  Never have to work a buttonhole again with this fast, easy method to attach zipper to knits.  Bring a 10″ SEPARATING zipper and worsted weight swatch  9″ x 10″ in stockinette stitch.  $20.00 class fee.

GroovyGhan with Tammie -  Come and get into the groove of crochet.  Learn to crochet or improve your skills by crocheting a beautiful afghan.  Choose colors to suite  your own “groove”, learn basic stitches, color changing and three variations of granny squares.  Get 10% off your yarns for this class. Pattern calls for 7 colors Vintage, 3 skeins each, size H crochet hook. Class fee $95, includes pattern.  Mon. Mar. 5, 12, 26, Apr. 2, 9 & 23   6:30 – 8:30  pm

 

 

Needle Felt with Tammie – A great beginner project for the whole family.  Start with a kit completely stocked with everything you need. Choose from the full selection of Woolpets kits.   Learn basic construction techniques, how to form facial features and finishing details.  Register and pick out your kit early for best choices.  Class fee $50 includes kit.  Mon. Mar. 19   6:00 –  9:00 pm

 

 

 

Needle Felted Silk Scarf with all hand dyed materialsCreate a silk scarf like those at local hand craft boutiques. Bring Clover pen style needle felting tool. (may be purchased separately if you don’t own one already)  $55.00 class fee includes all materials.        Mon. Apr. 16    6:30 – 8:30  pm

 

 

TUESDAY CLASSES

(K)novice Knitters Group with Eileen
Have you wanted to better understand the basics of knitting? You will learn how to cast on, knit and purl, decrease and increase stitches and then to cast off. You’ll have an article of your choice … a hat, a scarf, a baby blanket or sweater, for example… that you’ll be proud to wear or give as a gift to a loved one. We’ll look at different yarns appropriate to your specific project. You’ll learn the difference between needle styles (straight, circular or double points), and we’ll provide a working knowledge of abbreviations (co, yo, bo, inc, and dec) and their meaning in a pattern. There will be a wealth of tips, techniques and tools which will enrich your knitting experience far into your knitting future.

You may bring your own yarn and/or needles, or receive a 10% discount on any materials bought as part of the class.   Classes held on the second and fourth Tuesday of every month. Mar. 13,  27; Apr. 10 & 24 11:00 – 12:30pm  Cost: $15 per class, $50 for four sessions

Great American Aran Afghan (GAAA) with Lorri -  Need motivation to knit this afghan? Join us the 2nd Tuesday of every month and you will learn interesting and amazing knitting techniques. The GAAA requires 2000 yards of worsted weight yarn. For first class bring yarn, US 6 knitting needles and a cable needle. $15 each session.  Tues. Jan. 10, Feb. 14,  monthly on 2nd Tues. thereafter   6:30 – 8:30  pm

Unraveling Ravelry with Lorri – Unraveling Ravelry. What is Ravelry?  Learn all about this online community for knitters and crochetters.  Find out what’s hot and how to get it.  . Setting up an ID. Matching yarn to projects. What’s going on in the knitting world. Ravelry is very different from Facebook. Ravelry was created for knitters and crocheters specifically. Ravelers can discuss multiple topics through threads, list their projects, find patterns and more. Bring your iPad or netbook if you want (but not required) $20 class fee,  Tues. Mar. 20  6:30 – 8:30 pm

 

Circumnavigate Cowl by Heidi Kirrmaier with Lorri – Wear it long or wrap into a warm cowl. Knit with 325 yds of DK weight yarn that is soft and drapey. Bring a 29″ or 32″ US 7 circular needles and 15 stitch markers.  We found this pattern on Ravelry and you can too.  If you are already on Ravelry, please download the pattern before the first class if possible ($5.50 charge).  If you are not on Ravelry, please come a few minutes early to the class so we can get you signed up (no charge to join Ravelry). When you register, pick out your yarn and pick up instruction for casting on and first four rows which MUST be completed before the start of class.   Class fee $30 (plus $5.50 if you haven’t brought the pattern with you).  Tues. Sycamore Vest with Lorri – Hannah Fettig’s latest design. Knit this texture bordered vest in one piece. Would look great in DK-Sport weight cotton or linen. See pattern for yarn qty. Child’s Tube Sock – No heel! – with Maryanne -  If the thought of turning a heel makes you  queasy, tube socks are the  answer.  We’ll give you all the details for socks for the whole family. Bring size 2 needles.  Class socks fit child shoe size 4 – 9.  Class fee $45 includes yarn and pattern.      Thurs. Mar. 8 & 15  6:30 – 8:30 pm

Ogunquit from Norah Gaughan, with Maryanne -  This is a sweet little layer for breezy nights.  Twisted stitch front panels are echoes on the back.  Short sleeves and swing fit make this easy to wear all summer.   Class fee $65 and includes  pattern.    Thurs. Mar. 22, 29, Apr. 12 & 19  6:30 – 8:30 pm

FRIDAY CLASSES

 

Tuckernuck Child’s sweater with Debby  – Ready to make the leap from scarves to sweaters? Ready to give sweaters another try? Either way, this one is simpler than it looks (minimal seaming) and child size (newborn to five years). Create an heirloom and enhance your skills, which include: chart reading, cables, knitting in the round, picking up stitches, 3-needle bind-off, assembly and finishing.  Bring 300-800 yds. worsted weight yarn, 24″-32″ circular needles and double points, stitch markers and holders.  Fri. Knit Swirl (by Sandra McIver) your way to Happiness – with Debby –  Cat Bordhi calls this the “Miracle Sweater.”  It really does fit and flatter all body types, and is a triumph of knitting engineering that channels the spirit of Elizabeth Zimmerman with the style of Park Avenue.  Only simple knitting skills and a spirit of adventure are required to knit this sophisticated sweater – come swirl!

Participants will each receive a book which we will review in detail so that you will have time to select your style. $110 class fee includes book and 7 classes.  Fri. Mar 23, Apr. 6, 13 & 27, May 11, 25, June 8   1:00 – 3:00 pm

 

SATURDAY CLASSES

 

Home Dec Accents hooking with Phyllis   –Join Phyllis to create a wonderful, artistic, “genuinely one of a kind,” piece.  Class includes a starter kit of canvas, base yarns, and the tools for $95.  You will need a 12” or 14” wood embroidery hoop.  If you do not have one, you may purchase one at the class.   Sat. Weaving a Scarf on a “Knitters Loom” with Janet   Bring worsted-chunky yarns from your stash.  Looms are supplied and available for purchase. Class limited to 4. $60 class fee. Bring a snack/lunch please.  Sun. Mar. 18  10:00 am – 5:00 pm
