Alasdair Post-Quinn, local author of “Extreme Double-Knitting”

Published in Interweave Knits Fall 2011, contributor to Twist Collective Winter 2009

 Introduction to Double-Knitting Sunday, April 22, 1:30 – 4:30

Learn double-knitting and reversible colorwork techniques. Double-knitting is a unique method of making a fabric with no “wrong” side and a built-in reversible colorwork pattern. Significantly different from the standard intarsia and Fair Isle colorwork that are so well known, double-knitting is a labor-intensive but wholly worthwhile technique to have in your repertoire. In this workshop, you’ll learn Alasdair’s 2-color cast-on for double-knitting, get comfortable with the techniques involved, then move into colorwork. At the end of the workshop, you should have a motif swatch and be confident that you can tackle a larger standard double-knitting pattern.  Seats are limited, so call to reserve a spot.  $60

Requirements: 2 contrasting colors of plain yarn in the DK to worsted weight range and a pair of straight or circular needles in the proper size. This is an advanced technique, but you need only be comfortable with the long-tail cast-on and basic knit and purl; previous experience with colorwork is also helpful but not necessary.

The Fiber Festival of New England

Springfield, MA at the home of the BIG E ~ Workshops, Fleece Sale, Fashion Show (Sat. 3:00 pm) ~ Demonstrations, zillions (almost) of vendors…

On Saturday, Nov. 5 many of our friends rode the   Woolpack Bus to Springfield.

There was  lots of knitting time on the road, lots of shopping time, and plenty of new projects for the ride home.

I would have taken pictures of the animals, the fashion show and the great selection of fibers for spinning, weaving and felting but I was too busy shopping.  Join us next year?

Knit with Love – (don’t we all?)  A very special opportunity to meet the author and  support Warm Up America.  On   Tuesday, October 25th  we hosted Lisa Bogart, author of Knit with Love.   We had a great evening and turned in 94 “patches” (the most every collected at one of her events.  We are continuing to collect “Patches” and will have an assembly party in March.  Free needles and patterns are still available at the shop, so stop by.
